After that thread I wrote down this number for reporting sick birds, but it's a USDA number: 866-536-7593 (USDA Veterinary Services Office). You can probably find out who the state vet is through them. Good luck!

Back from the pointe tapatio cliffs with the brownie troop. Think thisis a tough crowd? Try spending 2 days with some moms from moon valley who think they are all that and a bag a godiva chocolate. Yup, I am the odd ball with the chickens and ducks and gardens and no food dyes. Just trying to run a brownie troop here and make a difference. :rolleyes:

Can we just stop talking about the dog? You are trolling and it's just not funny.

All snakes have a home range, they are not just wandering willy-nilly. As a poultry keeper, you need to do what it takes to keep your charges safe. Try putting up a small mesh wire around the enclosure--1/4" or 1/2" hardware cloth will keep out snakes big enough to eat a Serama. 2' up will be a deterrent to bullsnakes, they don't climb much. Better yet, and free, take down and use those annoying political signs after the election--they make excellent barriers. Bullsnakes also do NOT kill or eat rattlesnakes--it is the kingsnakes that do that. Bullsnakes (gopher snakes) eat rodents, birds, bird eggs. Would you rather have lots of mice and rats around to thieve your expensive feed? They do a good service and remember they lived in the desert before humans took over their habitat. End of sermon.

Point taken and taken well. Glad you corrected me on some things. I also know living with them is the better than relocating them. I personally love the snakes [not rattlers tho, sorry]. I think that rodents can poison feed to the point of loosing more chicks then just one to a hungry snake. Tell if I'm wrong.
We have in our area 4 diffeant types of snakes and I welcome them all. Red racer, gopher, king and bull snake. Never lost a chick yet to a snake.
Desertmarcy do we have horn toads in the area of Wittmann do you think?
