I took Hoppy out of solitary today.

I know she is going to get picked on but I cannot keep one bird fed & watered from the rest.

Anybody want an appenzeller spitzhaouben who is very friendly but has:

messed up toenails
only one eye
high probability of being a mycoplasma carrier

?

My wife and I purchased chicks from the Ace hardware store in Gilbert on Gilbert rd and Chandler heights

What kind of chicks did you get? How old are they now?

I'm really enjoying my rooster (eventho I'll eventually have to find a new home for him). One of my broodys got off her nest today and after a few minutes, the rooster chased her all around until she went back on her nest. He wasn't doing the wing down mating dance, it seemed he was really trying to get her back to her nest. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Then this morning, he was protecting the two younger pullets that I just put into the flock. He was raised with the two pullets, and he kept them shielded from the aggressive hens. The two pullets would actually run behind him when an older hen went after them. Does that sound like rooster behavior, or am I just dreaming it all up.
