Arizona Chickens

How the heck do people get a good ground in our dry, dry soil here? I want to put some electric wire around an existing fence but keep reading how the ground rod needs to be pounded down into permanently moist soil. Pretty much rules that out.

Anyone here have electric fencing????

I can't remember who was the gal on here that has a mother that wants a black poodle puppy. Louise is going to have pups around the 22nd of this month. Also if anyone interested or know anyone interested in a 5 year old white Standard Poodle. Cleo, the mother dog from the last litter. Also Louise will be needing a home after she is recuperated from having pups and she is 3 1/2. Both girls just want to get out and kill chickens and turkeys so need a home that does not have either. Both very good dogs other than that. Small adoption fee. PM me for more info.

The little black one is not a BR, so must be BSL. If the barred little guy is BSL too, then he is all boy. BSL Cockerels would look just like BR at this age. Checking a website. I think BR can be sexed by the dots like Dominique. Will let ya know if I find any info. here is a link to sexing BR chicks https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/305875/barred-rock-chick-sexing Are the true feathers coming in mostly white or black?? (White is roo) I am guessing cockerel, but read through the thread and see what you think.

I am guessing I have a little roo in my hen house. Sigh. My girls are sure we should keep him...they don't understand the concept of stealth coop. So the question is, do I take him back to Ace Hardware or give him to someone on Craigslist before they head to the outdoor coop.

I just want to put my two cents in before you take th BR in. I have a BR and a BSL. Poth pullets and laying. Those chicks look very much like Rocky and Link. I will find some pics and post ASAP so you can see.

Thank you! My other BLRW is named Dotte, too! You don't happen to have a BLRW roo that is giving you BLRW fertile eggs, do you? I just love this breed, and I have a broody!

Sorry, no roos over here. I'm just not brave enough. I always worry some day a neighbor will decide they arent fond of me keeping chickens.

I do hear you about broody. Dot certainly starts to give out the signs. She will go in and steal my RIR's egg and kick her out of the nest. Wow, that RIR gets noisy with all the crying and wailing afterwords! We ussually go in after Dot is done and take the eggs and kick her out. Then Dot is unhappy, lol. Drama, drama in the hen house.

Here are some pics of my BR and BSL. Hope this helps!

all 3 of the above are Rocky. She is a sweetheart.

The above 2 are Link BSL. She is in charge of the flock. She is a great forgager, following us in the garden to get scraps and bugs. Her eggs are proof too. They are large and have the brightest yolks of all the hens.
