You guys crack me up with your "hermit" talk! I grew up outside of Payson. It was a 45 minute drive into "town", that's if the rivers weren't flooded or a tree wasn't down in the road. I remember driving down to Phoenix to stock up at Price Club (Costco now) every few months. I do like the conviences of the city, but I'd gladly give those up to have a piece of land "away".

Bobby B: don't despair! There are still good people out there raising good kids (I'd like to think I'm one of them!). I have no problem taking all 5 to the grocery store...they do not yell, run around, or make a nuisance of themselves. Now home is another story! But really, I am amazed at how much self control a 2 year of can exhibit if they are only given the chance to. It doesn't mean constant spankings or anything like that. (but a good swat here and there sure gets their attention!). The key is consistancy. Wheather you're dog tired, in front of a crowd of people, or whatever, let them know the behavior is up unacceptable and will not be tolerated. And if that means leaving the store or restaurant because someone's having a tantrum, so be it. Kids will be kids, it's up to us to provide the guidelines and foundation for them to grow into productive, respectful, good adults. My husband has gotten after other people's kids and the parents act like it's his fault their kids are brats. If my kid is acting up and someone reasonably scolds them, I say "Thank You!". So anyway, be assured that there are many people who are trying their darnedest to raise good kids...but I do fear we are outnumbered.

Wow Petra!  You go girl!  Reminds me of my wife a few years ago.... but glad we stopped at SEVEN.

Thanks, Dar! SEVEN? You're da man! Society has told us over and over that children are burdens. That "responsible" people only have one or two children. But that's another topic.

Thank you all for you're support about my Daughter. I am an only child, don't know what 'normal' is until I had my 2nd child to use as a baseline for my older child. My 9 year old has Sensory Integration Disorder and ADHD (Inattentive type). She has sever anger and emotional problems. She outburst about hating life, and she wishes she would just die. Things like that just break my heart. Because of her sensory issues I haven't been much one to force any kind of diet change on her because of her intolerance with food taste and texture. She was diagnosed with SID when she was 4 and ADHD last March. Now she's starting puberty and my suspension of thing coming to a head are correct. I knew when she was 4 that this day would come. I told the doctor I was concerned about her mental health back then. She cries at the drop of a hat and over exaggerates everything. I have a Psychologist appointment for her first week of October and a Psyciatrist appointment for her first week of November. My ultimate fear is that she will take her own life. I hear so many stories of 9 and 10 yr olds taking their life that I am so fearful of this happening. The Psychologist that I spoke to is very familiar with SID and most anyone I've talked too isn't. My best explanation for teachers is she's got Autism without the social disability. She is very social and loves to search out new friends were ever we go. She is far from shy or introverted. But in all this, she loves animals and is very compassionate toward them. She is a very loving girl who is tormented by her inner demons. She's never been abused and has both parents that love her very much. She is hugged, kissed and told "I love you" several times a day. Prayers, good thoughts and advice are always welcome.

I have a funny and timely story. I was just outside and heard some rustling in the mass of overgrown purple fountain grass growing along the patio wall. While I was wondering what kind of animal was in there, out popped one of my EEs. Suddenly, it all became clear to me. I pulled aside the grasses and there in a shallow depression was a nest with 11 eggs laid by at least three of my hens that I thought had not been laying!

Silly birds. Now it makes me wonder if there are other hidden nests.

That's awesome!

I occasionally look around for hidden nests too. I've only found one so far.

I really never thought to look for one before, they'd been so good about laying in the nest boxes. I noticed that after I removed the eggs from the hidden nest, two of the birds laid their next egg in the coop. The third bird apparently didn't get the hint.

I am another one that could go way out with a few chosen good people and get away from all this and raise goats and chickens and have what ever I want as long as we can be self sustaining and have good shelters.

I go to a meeting the 4th Wednesday of every month with the mental health professionals designed to put families in need in touch with the professionals who can help. It is at 5:30 at the Family Involvement Center in Phoenix. You are welcome to check it out. Magellan Representatives will be there to help anyone who needs it. I have an adopted daughter will a lot of mental health issues and that is why I started my Parent Warrior support group on Face book. Finding help and navigating the system is tough.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. How horrible would it be to know that one of your neighbors did something so heinous?
