sorry, no picture right now, my camera is dead. they are stacked in still air with auto turner.

I know this must have been asked a thousand times, but I have a broody hen that's been hanging out in the coop for about a month now. My wife is sick of being pecked from her when she retrieves the eggs and frankly, I'm sick of her loud, angry attitude as well. If this goes on much longer she's headed for the crock pot! I'd appreciate any suggestions to break her of this habit. Thanks!
Ideas:
lock her out of the coop/nest area
cool bath that thoroughly soaks her to the skin, then let her dry in the outdoor heat
suspend her in a wire bottom cage so that plenty of fresh air gets to her bottom side
pick her up and remove her from the nest frequently, carrying her as far from it as your yard will allow
sneak some baby chicks in under her at night (just watch closely to make sure she does not reject them, and also remove all eggs she may be sitting on
wear heavy duty gloves

I just can't believe it was a natural predator. Why would they kill and not take them? Usual wild animals do not kill just to kill but kill to eat and kill and run like heck with their prey. Dogs love to kill for the sack of killing and probably was some pets that got loose. The Harris hawk will eat dead animals if they find it.
It is sad to us when predators get our pets but everyone remember that we have invaded their territory and the wild animals are just as precious to us and the world as our babies are to us.

Game and Fish IDed my culprit a few years ago as a Great Horned Owl. It, too did not take or eat much; Game and Fish referred to them as "Killing Machines," and stated that they will kill simply to kill.

Wow Petra! You go girl! Reminds me of my wife a few years ago.... but glad we stopped at SEVEN.
I have friend who has 10, and also homeschools. She gardens, cans, and all sorts of other things too. However, she is a farm wife, not a city girl. The youngest is about a year and a half; the oldest just started college.

I go to a meeting the 4th Wednesday of every month with the mental health professionals designed to put families in need in touch with the professionals who can help. It is at 5:30 at the Family Involvement Center in Phoenix. You are welcome to check it out. Magellan Representatives will be there to help anyone who needs it. I have an adopted daughter will a lot of mental health issues and that is why I started my Parent Warrior support group on Face book. Finding help and navigating the system is tough.
Thank You. You're in Gilbert? Care if I ride with you some time? I have to travel to Houston the week of the 24th this month. But would like to check it out in October. My girls have cheer leading on Wed night but I can probably get their dad to take them.

I need a like button for Arizona Chickens, Notinoz, and Bobby...I am so happy with homeschooling the almost 15-year-granddaughter after a trial of public school that last for 2 weeks this year, another grandD that is probably coming down here from MN. I panic if my dogs get out and we are pretty rural but they are like kids... I have my chickens, ducks, turkeys, quail, but would love a goat or two, and need to be able to figure out gardening down here....

I hope you don't mind, I liked your The Parent Warrior page. Looks like you live relatively close. I am at Ellsworth and Guadalupe.

I really never thought to look for one before, they'd been so good about laying in the nest boxes. I noticed that after I removed the eggs from the hidden nest, two of the birds laid their next egg in the coop. The third bird apparently didn't get the hint.
I have an abandoned dog house in my yard - I'm waiting for it to go into foreclosure -

It has a really nice roll out awning - 'cause redneck dog houses should have a roll out awning.

i had a couple of girls make a nest & lay some eggs under the awning.
