BTW I drive to Georgia tomorrow! Ladies hopefully to follow sooner rather than later. I am going to miss them so much. I'm tempted to sneak 1 or 2 with me now, but it wouldn't be fair as I don't have a good setup for them there yet.

I also don't really know how we're getting them there in a couple months down the road?! Has anyone moved 20ish chickens such a long ways on here before? We don't even have a vehicle that will hold them right now...I can downsize if I have to, but there are some who have been through so much with us that I just can't imagine parting with them....

Oh, I've been wondering what you've been up to! How exciting and stressful at the same time. I wouldn't know where to begin with transporting a flock that size and I too simply can't imagine you parting with a single one of them. Lots of cat-transport cages perhaps? Rent a bus?

How many hours of drive time is that? 36? You have to let us know how it goes! I wish you a trouble-free and safe travel.

Gallo, I don't see the "pump" in any of your pics.... nor where you located it. And how often you have the pump "On"

The type of pump I have has to be kept submerged--it's at the bottom of the tank. It also performs best when left running continuously. I would note though that other types of designs have pumps that run for 15 min. and then turn off for 45 while the grow bed drains. What you see in the pics is just the core of the system. We've already added on to it and soon we'll be expanding to larger grow beds outside of the greenhouse. The aim is to pump water to a high point and have it drain down through successively lower grow beds and eventually flow back into the sump tank. Hopefully, the large mass of water in the greenhouse, coupled with solar heating during the day, will keep the water temps at or above 65 degrees to keep the fish alive throughout the winter.

Check this out AZTiff. A few of the people here on the AZ thread have been getting this and I would too, in a heartbeat, if I lived closer.

I signed up for that a couple of days ago, super excited. But I'm out of feed as of tomorrow so I need to get something. I bought organic feed when I got the chicks but now realizing it doesn't say grower on it or anything for that matter, just organic chicken feed. Sigh.

Oh bummer. Yeah, you definitely need grower. It didn't say "layer" on it did it?

I was out in the garden collecting cucumbers for dinner and shot these.  Light is fading so the pic isn't great, but you get the idea.  All of these were mere flowers just a few days ago.  The longest was about 14" long.   We've been getting so many, I may finally have enough to ferment.  We planted three varieties--  these are Japanese vining, the Armenians are just starting to form and the third (I can't remember what it was) died.   I can only imagine how many we'd have if there were more pollinators.  Thankfully, the carpenter bees have been picking up some of the slack from the honey bees.  I was visiting BYCer TT! today and she gave me a Queen's Wreath and I think that will very much help next year in attracting bees.

gardening with our girls is a kick..
Between us and our other neighbors that garden they
have had about 11 nice size catapilars this week so far.
We are just getting our going this weekend...
Our girls got a hold of our squash plant a few days ago...
I now have my spray bottle ready every time they go near...
Thanks for sharing all of your awesome photos...
