Arizona Chickens

I won't ask how you got a hole in your ceiling, possibly from that hard party life with the chickens, you know how entertaining they are...LOL! Either the guy is very busy, or he doesn't want to be bothered. Kinda sounds like another unlicenced Contractor, ripping off folks who are now chasing him for unfinished jobs, and probably thinks you're one of them trying to get your money back. I've seen several hundred of those cases come accross my desk this year.

I wish it was from a wild party :D Long story short, there was a leak in the evaporative cooler supply line, which caused damage to the insulation and took out about a sheet and a half of dry wall. The ceiling is textured, so we wanted it professionally done. We got the plumber to come out, and he was able to fix the problem fairly quickly and cheaply, since the leak was in a fitting. This plumber has done work for me before, and he's also done work for my mom, and he's very good and reliable. I had no problem asking him for a reference on the dry wall installer, since its been my experience that people who are reliable professionals tend to know other people who are good at their jobs. I'm pretty sure that the dry wall guy just got busy.

Brand? Where did you purchase?

It is Nature's Own Organic. AND I checked the bag again to see what type - they (Ace Hardware, where I bought the chicks) gave me LAYER for MY CHICKS. I didn't see it when I bought them because there was a tag covering the bottom where is says layer. I feel like an idiot.

Have I done something horrible to my girls? They are only about 9 weeks! I repeat, I feel like an idiot.

I'm going to Higley Feed today - any suggestions?????

You really should remove access to any layer feed immediately. The calcium in layer pellets can cause kidney damage. If you can't find organic, get a smaller bag of non-organic until you can find what you need.

I am off to Tempe Feed - they have organic grower. Still feeling a mix of idiocy for buying it without checking closely and anger for them selling it to me WITH my chicks - they knew I was buying it for them. Lesson learned.

Hi everyone!

I am pretty new here, and new to chickens, I'm so glad I found the AZ thread, I've heard there are lots of Tucson and Phoenix people here?

Does anyone from south tucson have any problems with people stealing their chickens? Is it really necessary for me to put a lock on my coop/run? DH is terrified someone is going to just walk by and steal them! We have a 4ft chain link fence around the carport and side of the house, and the chickens free range in the afternoons and on the weekends and they LOVE the car port, nice and shady and lots of good dust bathing dirt, so anyone walking by can see them chilling out in the dirt.

I'd like to tell DH that he's crazy, they they are fine, and not to worry, but I'd rather check with all of you first and see if his concerns are legit!
Welcome to BYC Arizona Chickens Forum. The group here is fantastic and full of information. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. People steal chickens? I have heard of them stealing full bread dogs but not chickens.

A huge hug to you. my oldest has ADHD and Autism. I completely understand how you feel. You are not alone. Any time you need to talk, just PM me. Billy is 23 now and doing fantastic. It took a lot of work, and a lot of help, but we made it through. You guys will, too. I promise.
Thank you. It's so hard to explain to family when they think you're child is 'normal' and is just a spoiled, rude brat. I have tried to explain to my gradmother and my father and both of them think I just don't discipline my kids right. There is just so much you can do. If I died today, I could honestly say, I did my best.

I was out in the garden collecting cucumbers for dinner and shot these. Light is fading so the pic isn't great, but you get the idea. All of these were mere flowers just a few days ago. The longest was about 14" long. We've been getting so many, I may finally have enough to ferment. We planted three varieties-- these are Japanese vining, the Armenians are just starting to form and the third (I can't remember what it was) died. I can only imagine how many we'd have if there were more pollinators. Thankfully, the carpenter bees have been picking up some of the slack from the honey bees. I was visiting BYCer TT! today and she gave me a Queen's Wreath and I think that will very much help next year in attracting bees.

Beautiful!! I want one of these plant. My chickens ate my cucumber starts....grrrr

Thank you! I am glad that you liked it. I made my face book page because I am mad at the system for what I had to go through to get my daughter help. I was treated badly and had to fight hard for what I received. I figured we parents need to band together and help each other. :) Most people do not understand what it is like to live with a child with such issues. It is tough. That is what led me to get chickens. I needed something to love and focus on when stressed. :) My babies just started to lay eggs, well one did so far. I have 4. P.S. I home schooled back in the day too. I loved it.
Wow, that is really early. One day a month I might be able to get away with. I am going to have to check with my boss.
