Chunnel dimensions?

In the burbs

My three girls have been freeranging-I mean pooping all over my patio- for the past year. So I'm not sure if they'll be satisified with the 4x4 additional run I built today. They sure aren't happy in their 4x8 playhouse for too long.

Anyway, we have to overseed the yard next week and I'd rather not have them eat that "stuff".

-my backyard property has a 3 ft grave/rock border down the left side. I'd like to connect the "playhouse" (4x8) which is under that shady tree against the backwall and the run (3x4) also under the shady tree against the left wall (behind the treehouse) & another run next to the house (see that lil 50-52 inch width of unused space between the house & the blockwall).
The chunnel can't be "unsightly" as my hubby would say. It would run against the block wall fence; so I really only need to "fence" the side & top.

My problem is that it would run behind the swing set, so I need to know how low (16", 20", 24"??) I can make it and still have it be manageable for them. (Barred Rock) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking I could possibly use the yardgard garden fence and try to make a "hoop" run? Trying not to spend any $$ BTW, a couple of unemployed accountants here.

Update on the temporary run: It ended up measuring 3x10x4 with a tree in the middle. Well, the girls are pretty upset with me yesterday afternoon & today. Not louder than the neighborhood dogs; but still very vocal. Looks like I'll be building the run on the side of the house tomorrow. They are so spoiled with the entire yard.

I hope it is OK to post this here. I just really want to help and time is short. We need to find this 3 year old neutered male inside/outside cat a home. A elderly lady I know is leaving for a retirement home out of state Saturday. The poor guy is crawling into her suitcase, so sad. She doesn't want to take him to the pound. Please help if you know anyone who could possible take it, she is desperate. She is in mesa.

Hey you guys, the caption you voted on for me won! The picture will be sent to those who gets the Workday Chicken on Nov. 14th. It is nice and fun to have a picture every work day and to vote and make suggestions.

Ya know,

Hearing some of these stories keeps me waffling about getting chickens. Why should I be so sensitive as to what may offend the neighbors when they have a total disreguard for their animals' noises and behaviors? I'm allowed to have chickens, The City allows 24 hens and the HOA allows a "reasonable" number, but I'm feeling guilty about the "egg song" that they'll make. I'm sure it wouldn't be an all-day affair, like all the yapping mutts around me coming from at least three neighbors. I have a huge, dirt backyard that is virtually a blank slate for me to create my chicken sanctuary and garden, so I received about six chicken books in the mail this week. Other than the usual brooding and raising chicks, I'm thoroughly interested in all the plants/trees/veggies and composting. Gotta add some shade and goodies out there for me and my flock.

The front and sides of the house has that foo-foo pink gravel and some landscaping, but the back yard is just a typical dirt lot...not a tree or shrub to be found. Surprising, ontop of that hard crust, there is moist, dark soil about an inch below the surface. I will do my research to avoid asking a bunch of redundant questions here. The gardening aspect of it all sounds as interesting as having the chickens themselves --BB

DO IT! Sorry for yelling, but you won't regret it!

Hello -

I'm in Scottsdale, AZ and I'm looking to add some Silkies to our flock. Does anyone know of any breeders in AZ?

Thanks!

It was a year before our neighbors realized we had chickens and only then because one got out and we went around asking if anyone had seen it. We got some pretty weird looks but mostly curiosity from people.
We found the chicken, BTW. She had hunkered down under a bush right next to a very busy street. She was very happy to see us!

I use Convenient Termite and Pest control. They are wonderful. 480-892-8277 Tell them you have chickens so they can plan to use a safe product.
