Arizona quail

It's still pretty hot in Arizona. Last week got up to 117 here. I would wait a few weeks if you can. My Pedro is one year old and is having trouble with the heat. She spends most of the day on her ice towel panting with her wings out. I wish I could bring her back in the house, but she is too messy now. If you do put them outside, I recommend providing a wet towel with ice bricks (cubes melt too fast).

3 weeks is a bit young for extreme temperatures. You could start putting them out in the morning and evening and bringing them back in during the hottest part of the day. By the time they're 5-6 weeks old, they should be reasonably accustomed to the temperatures, but I would still provide them with ice water to drink and ice bottles to lay against.

I keep mine on the ground, on my side yard, but enclosed in a 2’x8’ run with a hutch attached to the bottom end. How do you give the ice bricks? Are yours on wire or the ground? I’ve considered a water bath for them in the summer, but wondering if it will cause a lot of mud…

Instead of a water bath, take 2 litre bottles, fill them about 2/3 with water, then freeze them.
