Arkansas Blue egg layers

Pics
brrrrr

I haven't had snow yet - well - a bit in the air ... but just 30 miles from me is coated with it - it is coming ! :)

Yeah, they had time to acclimate to the cold this year - and I always up their feed once there are no real buggies to free range up .... so I've never ever lost a bird to the cold yet .... but I don't have some of the more tropical breeds ...

I just collected a 78G egg from one of my Arkansas Blue egg layers! It does not look like a double yolk egg either.

I will get a picture of it as soon as the camera battery is charged.

Nice Ron! Hope my pullet starts laying soon now that I have a light on early in the am.
I hope so too! I have been getting two a day from the four pullets. This is the biggest so far and bigger than I would expect from them

Here is the picture:

The hatching eggs I got last year were just lovely - big, light blue, and like peas in a pod. Unfortunately of the 4 that hatched 3 were white chicks, and 2 were cockerels, so I ended up with a white pullet and a splash roo (who I really like, he is a gentle thing, crows rarely and then a little bantam-like crow. Since he is my only current rooster my mornings are quieter than they have been for a Long time.

That must be nice. I can hardly remember what life was like before I got chickens. But it is a lot quieter since I got rid of abt. 35 roosters and now only have 3. lol

My rooster is starting to mate now at 14 weeks old? I need to separate out the two roos I have so I know who is breeding with each sets of hens then 4 weeks later hoping to hatch. Hoping people will have some hatching eggs around late February/March!

My older hen whom I plan to breed with this breed has been one of my most consistent layers, she and my red star are currently going head to head right now in the middle of winter. She lays a medium/large light blue egg very similar to the Arkansas blue eggs I received last year.

They are very good layers for sure!
