Arkansas Blue egg layers

Pics
Is there anyone out there that would like to swap some eggs to bring in some different breeding stock? Mine are just starting to pick back up laying. Eggs are a little muddy because I can't keep the run dry enough to get the mud off their feet before they get to the nesting box but nothing to prevent hatchability.

I'm also on the lookout for a new cockerel either blue without red leakage (or as little as possible) or black. I'm also open to a blue or black tailed clean-faced Araucana in order to add some totally new blood. I would make sure that she only lays true blue eggs before adding in, but figure a pullet or hen is better than a cockerel that leaves unknown egg color genetics possible.

I would like to swap eggs. Mine are not read yet though.

Are you sure you want to introduce rumpless genes into the gene pool??

That's the reason I said tailed. These started with an Araucana/Leghorn cross. I don't want to ruin the combs by putting more SC in and dominant white to try to breed out. If I can get a tailed, clean-faced Araucana then I can reinforce the blue egg gene and the peacomb plus add a little more of the Araucana temperament to offset the Leghorn flightiness. The Araucana I'm looking for would be an obvious cull to any breeding project so should be readily available if any real breeder has one that fits the description. I know that several people are working on blues and blacks. I want one of their rejects. :)

Just let me know when. Do you have some from other breeders than my originals? I have someone on the Facebook group from OK that I am supposed to trade eggs/chicks with this spring. I'm going to put up a posting that I need a new cockerel. My original rooster is beautiful but is getting up there as he is over 5 years old now.

Have you checked on the Auraucan thread? It is a low volume thread but still going.

I checked on the Cashs blue egg website but I think she only has tufted rumpless.

I will probably start with Debi of Ray_n_Debi as I have gotten blue Araucana from her in previous hatches. She might have a blue or black reject hatch out this spring that would work perfectly for me. Anyone that breeds Araucana is going to come up with a tailed and/or rumped bird at one time or another. You have to watch it because you can actually wind up with too short a back which causes lethal issues with waste disposal.

They are closer to you I bet Also.

Sounds like a good project. Keep us posted.

I will get back to you when I have my group going.

What a shame the PO ruined the eggs you sent me last year. I was planning on breeding the pullets I got from those eggs to my black Araucauna rooster......... You can check the blue gene in any rooster by breeding him to a hen that lays white eggs. Her pullets will prove what genes a rooster carries when her eggs start coming.
