Arkansas Blue egg layers

Say all - we we settle on getting a good base for this breed - I have noticed in the two roos I raised that they didn't show any real roo traits until the hens were almost ready to lay eggs - they they sprouted overnight ! :) (or it seemed like it)

Did any of you have similar development ?

Mine have also been gentle boys - they do hackle up a little at my other roos, but never seem to really press the issue so they are never the head roo -but don't let themselves get pushed around - really a perfect mix in temperment for me. They have never once aggressed toward a human at all ... my other roos all seem to go through a small teenage stage where they try a little posturing at me.

this is also fairly common when there is another dominant rooster at least I've noticed with my Penedesenca and some Ameraucana I have had

My rooster was also late maturing it seemed, took a very long time to start crowing not that I am complaining. Even still he hardly crows mostly just first thing in the morning and a handful at most throughout the day even though he is the oldest rooster I have ever had. No other roosters with the flock since his introduction either.

The three boys I had in together used to spar quite seriously, sometimes for quite a long time, but no one ever got hurt, they just flared up and flapped around a lot. The two I have left look like mirror images pacing their in-common fence, but no blood or damage done.

My parents kept the 5 black pullets from my F1 cross of UofA cockerel to my own breeding project (Blue Ameraucana x White Leghorn). I was surprised with just how uniform they are. All have slate legs, white earlobes, similar body type. I expected a lot more variation. I am excited to see how these pullets lay and what they look like when they reach POL. They are currently 4 months old, hatched on December 6th.

They definitely inheritted the personality of the U of A rooster, very skittish compared to my birds, typical Leghorn personality.

Anyone here interested in a dozen hatching AB eggs ?

In the interest of establishing the breed - I won't ask for any price on the eggs - only covering the priority mail and packing .... the flat rate box is what I use - runs at $15 to $17.

If you also want to buy some pure Marans eggs - let me know ... I know most of us are egg color enthusiasts - which is why we had our eyes caught by the AB... my marans are not show quality because of mixed feather color ONLY - they are from very good lines - not hatchery - and all have the French feathering on their legs - but my roo is white - so the chicks could be ANY color with BBC, blue/black splash and cucko hens !!! :) The eggs will all be very dark and the body type true to Marans ... but I don't show - So I only went for hardy and pure body type.

I am interested in both.
