Arkansas Blue egg layers

I've not had a broody yet

Good! I am tired of my broody hens! Then again who knows with my luck, leghorn blood should make them not brood as well but that didn't work out for me.

Here are the 9 blue chicks that have hatched so far - the lighter color one I think is Blue/Barred it hatched from a Barred Ameraucana type bird so it should be a boy.

Has anyone had issues with broody hens with this breed(or had any brood at all for that matter)? Seems like they wouldn't have any tendency toward brooding but my primarily leghorn descent hens managed to keep some brooding tendency.

I never had any indication of any of mine going broody even when every other hen on the place was growling. :)

I have yet ANOTHER question for you all :-D.

I am trying to decide whether this chick is the lightest black feathered chick or the darkest blue chick I have seen

. I think she is black, but every now in then she also looks blue to me.

Depending on the lighting it looks either black or blue here are some pictures of her:

In this pick there is also a very very light blue chick just behind the one in question.

The chick is blue.

Very cute!

Definitely the darkest blue chick I have had or seen then, even her legs are pretty dark.

Does silver based blue result in lighter blues or darker? I don't know enough about the silver based black vs extended black but I wish I did.

Well all 5 of the pullets are now laying blue eggs! They were hatched December 6th so just turned 22 weeks old by my count? My parents weren't sure how many were laying but they got 5 smaller/medium blue eggs today and only have 5 hens that will ever lay blue. They are really enjoying these birds both in appearance and egg laying. The ones that have been laying a while (started at 18 weeks old) are now laying medium sized eggs. These should have very good feed conversion considering how small/light bodied they are.

I am even more excited to see my little ones grow up!
