Arkansas Blue egg layers

I dropped off some eggs downstate too.

My current batch of young teens are very fun to watch - they are very active, hopping up into the windows several feet off the ground, and walking along the high roost. When you first open the door they all act as if they are about to die, but soon curiosity takes over and they move closer. Not chickens for chick huggers, but bright and active, they are probably excellent ranging birds.

I found with mine that the pullets and hens were only skittish in the coops or pens. When free-ranging they would keep an eye on me, but didn't panic when in close proximity. My roo never did relax. He was ALWAYS high strung and acted like he knew I was planning on having him for dinner.

She looks great!

Thanks! Glad I asked you guys before I sold her with the other chicks. Based on development, I think I have 5 blue and 1 black pullet growing out right now that will be replacing most of my flock. In a few months I should have eggs coming out my ears not that I don't already!

I never get black ! I get white and grey with splashes ... I'd love a black :) My roo is grey with predominate black splashing now - he almost looks just like that hen but with the longer roo feathers - during his teens he looked like a normal grey splash.

My first test hatch I got 5 black pullets, 2 blue cockerels (one being blue barred from my project hen).

This hatch I think it was a pretty even split between black and blues but I deliberately only kept the blues. The blacks are absolutely beautiful birds though. The 5 pullets from my first test hatch have the perfect coloration for me. Black without leakage and great sheen in the sun, pure black shanks and contrast with the white earlobes. I love the look.

They are hard to photograph! Always blurry because of how fast and skittish they are :p.
