Arkansas Blue egg layers

Then maybe I have two pullets ! I also thought since the comb is bigger on the first one it may be a roo - which is ok with me too ...

They are about 4-5 months old - I am terrible at remembering dates - but somewhere thereabouts - certainly they were hatched out mid-spring this year.

they are both pullets.

Not only do the cockerels crow by then and get hackle and saddle feathers, they get a wide look to the breast that the pullets do not have.

They should start laying eggs any day now.

Yes, the body style of these reminds me of Sumatras. The cockerels become very "beefy" up front for an egg-laying breed. I haven't tried to eat any of mine so don't know if this is only looks or if they actually do carry more meat in that area. If you had a cockerel you would definitely know it by 4 to 5 months as I have had mine start chasing pullets/hens as early as 12 - 14 weeks.

I sold some hatching eggs to @chrissyr last spring and the pullets are laying eggs now.

She got Arkansas Blues(UofA Blues) and ABs X Crele Penes hens.

They make great Olive Eggers!

The egg on the left is an EE, the middle is the AB X CP and the egg on the right is from an Arkansas Blue!

thank you so much Ron for sending these birds my way. Extremely happy with them. I'll try to get pics of the birds too, but my phone never does them justice. They are beautiful! They just started laying and they're laying quite regularly. They seem to be great foragers as well. And I am really thrilled that the olive egg is so nice too. Waiting to see what color egg you get is like Christmas and Easter all rolled into one. Well except for the brown egg of mine on the left. The mom was an EE of mine that didn't pass on the blue egg gene. That didn't feel like a holiday. More like when I was a kid and it was the first day of school ;)

thank you. I'm really happy I got these girls. I got one of the best hatching rates from shipped eggs with these. Ron packs them super well.

I love my UofA Blues too!
They are on the smaller end of large fowl but that makes them good free-rangers.
Mine have not started to lay yet.
@chrissyr when did yours hatch? Mine hatched 5/24.

I agree, he has such a wealth of knowledge on all things poultry

Did someone ask if Arkansas Blues can fly?

Oh Boy!

This one decided to go to bed at the top of a 7 foot post!

They just finished the last juvenile molt so I am expecting eggs at any time.
