Arkansas Blue egg layers

Pics
My question is; if Arkansas Blues are such good layers, why is it so hard to get eggs?
It is similar to what happens with rare and heritage breeds. Not many have them and those that do have them, do not have a lot of them. Hatcheries have thousands of birds in breeding pens so they can supply lots of eggs.

Patience can be hard--I know from experience by being on waiting lists for years.

I am quite happy with large sized eggs, much larger than that they do not fit the cartons unless you get jumbo ones, and most recipes call for large eggs. Giant sized eggs also use more resources such as calcium and protein for the larger volume of white.
Yeah, I prefer an egg that actually fits in the cartons too. Most of my White Leghorns eggs do but some are too big to close tightly. We have had a few redstars that regularly produced eggs too big for the carton and double yolkers. It's fun but not practical. I imagine that our birds just have been allowed to lay longer into their lives vs the commercial set ups and that is why the eggs are getting so much bigger.

Got 9 AB eggs via mail - ALL NINE are developing ! Day 3 so still very early in the process - but that locks in these eggs are fertile and made it through the shipping process.

Good news
