Arkansas Meet-Ups, Swaps and Such

thank you Dray and Mrs BachBach,I didn't know about this one, and this is the closest to me. It's only an hour away, & I think I'll try to make it saturday. I'll just have to find out what kind of cages I need to buy for my roosters, and find out some of the rules and regulations for their auctions. I've never been to one.

It might be a good ideal to go and check it out first. Ask lots if questions about it also.

What are the fees for: test, any yardage fees, the commission and such as that.
If they have yardage fees then they shouldn't have over a 15% commission. The one here in Saline is a 20% commission but no yardage fee.

As for cages for the chickens I use a 24 x 24 rabbit cage. I've seen folks show up with too many chickens crammed in together in the pet taxi's. I never bid on those too mess and feces all over the the birds.
I like to have mine displayed to where folks can see the quality they're bidding on. Just me.

The one in Marble is new to me. Actually I've never heard of Marble, AR. Is this one on a regular basis? If so, what is the week-end week that it is held?

.

Draye, I looked up Marble,AR. and found one around Little Rock...so kept asking. then found it is actually in Haskins, AR. Called Marble sales barn.(45 mls. from me!) Called and they said about 400 people showed up last week...and they do sell POLTRY..."just about any kind you are looking for". So I'm going to take me 3 roos there tomorrow. Wish me luck. After buying 3 cages I might break even. But the roos will have a better environment I hope.

You and Mrs.BB have been a blessing to me...who can't kill Roo's.

Help, went out to water my chicks and found one of my prized 1 month old roos with has been scalped! Skin still attached and plenty alive. The cage has a roof and 4 sides.there may b one other month old roo in there but would something else get in and out without hurting other chicks? And can I save him?

Sorry, you can out him somewhere where he is isolated and put Peroxide on it and let it dry and put on some neosporin. Should be okay as long as the wound spent go too deep. I don't know if chickens get headaches but I've been told you can dissolve a half aspirin in a gallon of water to help with that. I've never tried the aspirin though.

I put a lot of neosporen on it and put a wrap around bandage on it. He look like he has a ted turner tupie. BTW I won't b going to the POLTRY auction tomorrow. Couldn't find a cage yet. Maybe next week.

Well had a good day at the auction. Plenty of chickens, baby chickens, baby ducks and rabbits. Prices were down quite a bit though.

Attendance was down also, I think a lot if the reasons for both was the heat. Also they had an auction in Mt. Ida today.

I lucked out today picked up a lot of Welsummers. 1 rooster and 10 hens. $8.50 each. They looked like some of ygem were taking a break from laying but some still had bright red combs so maybe I'll get a few more eggs in the next few days.

My daughter works in dermatology. Don't use peroxide. It kills healthy tissue.
Chickens can heal from some nasty wounds. Clean it with sterile water, you can put some neosporin on it, the kind without the numbing agent, or just get some wound spray from the farm store. I've used a product called WonderDust on scalp wounds before. It scabs it up (will turn black) and will keep it from getting infected and full of flies. It will heal, will just take time.

As far as Marble goes, it shows up on google maps as Marble, just east of Huntsville on Hwy 412. I searched for this Haskins you mentioned and can't find it. Unless they rebuilt the auction place, I don't see how Marble can hold 400 people. It's a small place, right on the highway. No way it holds that many people. I think they have auctions every Saturday. I only went once a couple of years ago.
Where is this Haskins? Is that the city name or auction house name? I may be interested in that one.

I already have a couple that look like they started molting. I know one isn't laying. I've never seen them molt this early.
