Just got confirmation that the Chicken Mafia of Charleston, AR will be having their semi-annual auction on Saturday the 19th at the Charleston fair grounds. Auction begins at noon. Set up begins around 8am. Testers on site.

If Saline County is too far a drive for you NW AR folks, come on down to Charleston!

Charleston is only about an hour from Fayetteville if you feel like a Saturday drive.

For the central and anyone else in the state any all other states there is the Auction at the Saline County fairgrounds. Begin taking in animals around 8:00 am and auction begins at 12:00 noon.

Had a good day at the auction today. Fair to middling price. Could have been a bit more but for this time of year when so many are trying to sake off older hens so they won't have too much to feed through the winter.

Next sale @ the Saline County Fairgrounds will be October 17th.

The Mafia sale was Rooster heavy so didn't get much for my boys, but they are off my expenses so I am fine with that. People were bidding crazy for any type of "laying" hen, barred rock, leghorn, sex-link, didn't matter, neither did age. Wish I had been selling some.

I too let roosters go too cheap. I don't think I'll be raising so many any more. It's just too expensive to feed them out to any kind of size and only get $4.00 and $5.00 each for them. I had full grown breeding roosters go for $5.50.

Edit to add: most hens weren't bringing a whole lot either. I faired pretty good on mine though averaged $12.50 each. Most all the most popular breeds were only bring $5.00 to $8.00. It's the time of year though when most breeders are selling off a lot of stick so they don't have to feed through the winter, the buyers know that and take advantage if it.

Yep. I know what you mean. I just don't like to process so I just sell them off for whatever. At least when they are gone, they aren't eating your feed.
