Around what age do they go broody?

Some never do. It's been bred out of most hatchery stock. And if they have the tendency, they can go broody just after starting to lay or like one of mine, for the first time broody at two and a half years old. No timetable.

What breed do you have? Some breeds go broody often, and others may never go broody at all. I have a Silkie who just went broody at about 30 weeks, but Silkies are known for their broodiness.

Depends on the breed, and whether the hen/pullet decides to go broody, I have had some go right after they started laying(Arucana) 6-7 months, and have had some that didnt go till thier first spring,15-16 months, and now have a australop sitting on her first clutch 2 1/2 years, so there is no real answer.

Edited to add does this ^ look like 4 minutes of typing? there was only one post when I started
