LOL! I love this post, My RIR likes to give me the stinkeye, we don't have a roo and it seems like she took the place of one in a way. She is definitely in charge of my other 2 hens (a Salmon Faverolle and Silver Laced Wyandotte) The other day I went to grab the waterer and she puffed up, ran over and started pecking my arm, it startled me so much I yelled which made her peck more LOL. My boyfriend heard this all and opened the back door to tell me to be quiet since it was only 7AM. He thought it was funny though b/c that's his hen. The other 2 are my perfect little ladies Well, maybe not the Faverolle, she's kinda naughty too and I don't think she's all there if you know what I mean
I did for about 10 yrs in Texas.....very sad and very satisfying..ya know?
We only have 4 Barred Rocks right now, and have a Black-headed Caique parrot who's about to be
18 years old! You'll be tickled to know the parrot's name is "KIWI"...LOL!!!
(No more wild birds at this time)....it got to be too much with all the calling and every late hour to deliver
a bird in distress, or "orphaned" baby birds........all hours of the day and night!

Myself, I do not, but would like to...for now I can dream
In the north island of NZ, there are several branches of the SPCA, called birdwing, who rehabilitate birds...my cat caught two wax-eye (native bird) chicks, and brought them inside. I put them in an old fishtank, with a lightbulb overhead, like a baby chick. One died overnight (
) but we managed to get the other one to birdwing in time. Hopefully the remaining chick was allright.
The zoo in Auckland also has a breeding program for kiwis. When they're old enough, they're released into reserve islands, like Tiri Tiri Matangi, or Rangitoto. They do this as well with Tuatara (type of lizard, lives to over 100, highly endangered, hasn't evolved since dinosaurs).
Cool!!! say hi to "Kiwi" for me!!!
Are one of the BRs named Tui?? Korimako??
Sorry, I'm a little overenthusiastic in the Native Bird department...mabe that's why I've got chickens!!!
