Article on Gene Logsdon

Good piece. I've always like Gene Logsdon. He lives in a very different climate from me so much of his advice does not work here, but I like him anyway.

Profitability is the hard part here. It's not whether the birds lay well or not. It is whether they lay enough eggs to be worth what it costs to keep them!

Some times a little less production is worth while if it means a big reduction in feed costs. The more of their feed that you can produce directly or at least buy cheaply likely the better the return on your investment. Free range and whole corn bought cheaply can make a bag of high protein mash feed go a long ways.
