Alex finished delivering packages since, like he said, today was not a busy work day. He drove to a nearby smoothie shop and bought a mango smoothie. He sat on an empty bench outside of the smoothie shop and started drinking his smoothie.

JR returned her smile kindly, “Anything to get out of school right?” he joked, “But yeah, I could use a ride back. Thanks.” He couldn’t see himself getting back home on his own, especially without his bus pass and dealing with riding up and down the hills on his skateboard. He took a look around the interior of Margaret’s car, impressed that seemed well taken care of. “Is this a new car?” he asked, in attempt to talk about something other than the hospital and injury stuff.

She laughed “indeed.” He asked about her car and she grinned to herself “um, only a few months old.”

“Ah yeah I do, I actually live on the north side with my mom. We’re on the first floor of the building.” JR answered, watching the road ahead as cars on the adjacent side whizzed on by. He’d never actually run into Margaret before now, So did she move in just recently? “Which side are located you on?” he questioned.

Max drank his tea and got up and paid. He went outside and untied cisco and started to ride back to the ranch.

JR casually shrugged, “Nah it’s all good” he smiled, glancing at her reddened face. “How have you been liking it? Your neighbors aren’t too loud are they?” He shifted a bit in the passenger seat, “We’ve got this dude above us that plays all his sports games on the highest volume possible—he’s a total jerk.” JR mumbled, visibly annoyed at the thought of his upstairs neighbor.

Max rides to his ranch and puts cisco in the stables and helps his cousin clean the horses and their saddles for the upcoming week.
