Well on a trip to visit my brother our daughter fell in love with the baby chicks he has from his brood. I have never raised them but want to know how old yall think the 2 that we have are. And i am also wondering if you all thing they are ready to go outside in a well made enclosure. i am in SC so this time of year it can still get to the 40's.

like i didnt have enough animals...

They look around 4 weeks old to me and IMO not feathered enough to be outside at that temp. I use a heat lamp on mine until at least 6 weeks, lowering the temp 5 degrees each week, starting at 90 at day 1. Personally I think they need to be kept around 70 degrees until feathered more. Considering there are only 2 of them, they can't even huddle for warmth. Were they outdoors where you got them from? Are they used to temps that low?

Good luck with your new babies

I agree with bantybev, they need to stay at least 70 degrees until they are fully feathered. what are you feeding them? they are cute, and you will have fun with them as pets.

oh by the way

I am feeding them a medicated chick starter that i bought from our local seed and feed store. They also eat whatever they catch outside when we take them out. They are running around a lot and seam quite healthy. We think the black one is a rooster. He will fly up to the edge of his tank and just stand there looking around. He puffs out his chest feathers also. They are growing bigger by the day. The presumed yellow hen will squawk loudly when the black one hops op trying to escape or when we take him out of the tank to scratch outside. They come from PA (my home state). I will build the enclosure and keep it in the garage for a month and then relocate...thanks all.
