I have 7 girls. They are 2 years old. They free range all day, and also have fresh water and food available. I keep a very clean coop and run. Water is changed 2x/day. They are fed Dumor 16% Layer Feed and have been from day one (once old enough for layer). I (knock on wood) have not had a single health problem until recently. I now have my 2nd girl with bad Ascites 🙁! The vet has told me to take them off of chicken feed and only give them cracked corn and occasional vegetables as he said they are getting too much protein. Any thoughts or input would be Very much Appreciated. If I have left out any important info I will gladly answer any ?’s.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Can you describe the symptoms?
Did your vet perform a necropsy or send the body to your state lab for diagnostics to determine the cause of the Ascites?
When the bird was opened up, was there a lot of fat, any findings of reproductive problems, heart/liver disease, etc.?

What breed of birds do you have? Any photos?
