Ascites?

She is moving around much better today. Thinking she hurt her leg & that’s healing but brought to my attention her swollen bottom thank goodness. She laid an egg today & her doughy crop does not feel doughy anymore. She has 2 doses of Baytril in her so far & she’ll have her 2nd daily dose tonight. I don’t think I’m going to have enough Baytril to last 10 days for an 8 lb hen, so I either have to order more or switch her to the aqua-Mox when it gets here. Is there any harm in switching or do you recommend I purchase more Baytril? Should I be soaking her bottom at all? Doing anything to prevent further crop issues like sour crop from the antibiotics?

Thank you again for everyone’s help.

It's okay to switch to the amoxy when it comes. if you have a two or three day lag without any antibiotic to give her, well, we will hope she's far enough along that she'll catch up when she gets on the amoxy. Take that ten full days from when you give her the first dose.

I try to give a probiotic tablet each day to a chicken on an antibiotic to bolster her good microbes, hopefully to discourage any yeast that is thinking about invading.

Ok thanks for responding I plan to do that. I should have enough Baytril to last until the amoxicillin gets here. What kind of probiotic tablet do you recommend I look for? I only have the powder kind with vitamins & electrolytes in it that you add to water.
