Ash for dustbathing?

Any thoughts on using ash from my wood pellet stove?

I think that would turn into mud balls with any kind of moisture and it might get into the birds lungs. The thread below is on sawdust, but same principle, I would think.

Yeah. Sand is the best choice.

i have heard of people mixing wood ash into dust bath, but i have never tried it nor would i use it straight.....you may want to try mixing it in with sand or other dustbath medium, but be careful of the moisture as @Nabiki pointed out

I probably would avoid it for the reasons that @Nabiki mentioned. I just use dirt from my backyard.

Thanks, the good news is I have a bag of play sand laying around from my reef keeping days in another lifetime.
