Ashley Davis - New chicken Lady

Hello Ashley and welcome to BYC! I love your intro!

I'm so jealous of your dog! I wish my Doberman would be a flock protector too. Just the other day on leash, he charged one of my Easter eggers! Clearly more prey drive than protective instinct going on there.

Thank you so much! Oh no, well don't lose hope! They all have potential to shock us. Fortunately my dog has more bite than bark, although he will bite someone, when it comes to critters he is deathly afraid of Lizards, ESPECIALLY BLUE TAIL ONES when their tails fall off! He just can't understand where the Lizard went.. :lau

I found that if we just let our dog out and fuss if he chases them, he eventually stopped chasing them. He may initially but he backs off pretty quickly.

I'd be too nervous to let him off leash with the chickens! He has killed many a wood chuck in his day and will chase crows in the fields. And my rat terrier and min pin are no better.
I may let the dogs loose after we run two electric strands around the run and just let them all get a good hit from the fence. They'll think the chickens did it and hopefully would gain a huge amount of respect for them.

Oh wow! See I thought our dog would kill them instantly. But he whines and sniffs and he even licks them but never hurts them. He kills cats, squirrels, birds, and has tried to kill other smaller dogs but it's like he is a momma dog now, LOL!
