Ask any duck question here and hopefully someone will answer it!

I have 2 ducks that would be 20 weeks on the first week of Novemeber and 2 ducks that would be 20 weeks in the first week of December... Would they start to lay in December or would it be too cold for them to start?? They are Runners by the way...

This is my first year/time with ducks so I really don't know. If they are like chickens, yes, the weather can have a bearing on when they start to lay. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will answer.

I'm keeping chickens illegally with no problems so far. I've been thinking about adding ducks. Are they louder than chicken hens?
So far no one has complained about my hens. I have three acres, so there's plenty of buffer space between houses, but I wouldn't want to push my luck and risk losing my hens.

Also, do ducks eat squash bugs? My hens won't touch them.

We got our first ducks in August 2008 and they began to lay in January 2009. We have khakis, runners and Swedish. I believe the Swedish were the last to lay and the khakis were the first. So the answer is Yes, they will lay in the winter.

It isn't the temperature that determines if they will lay, but the amount of available light.

You don't have to add artifical light for ducks as you do for chickens though. Actually if you change anything significantly they could end up going through a molt and not lay or stop laying.
