I have One duck with 7 chickens and he stays right with them. Goes into the coop with them at night too. I do not think he would like it very much if I seperated him from his friends. GOOD LUCK!

hes never hung out with them though? He has a pen where he can watch them all day but last time we let him out to play with them he flapped his wings on them to death-chasing after them...

Does she have a bunkmate? Let her bunk in with the chickens and she/he will be able to eat layer pellets just fine. They don't HAVE to swim, but mine do anyway, regardless of the weather. Whenever it got so cold that the kiddie pool froze, they would stand on the top crust and look at the water below and stare at me like "FIX THIS! NOW!" I'd break the ice and they'd be in the water. Most ducks do pretty well with the cold just as long as they can get out of the elements.

no bunk mates per say?? He does get kenneled up at night in the barn with all the chickens too-so they see eachother all the time-I will not get another duck-he was an accident in the first place-it was supposed to be a chicken egg! we could not get rid of him after he hatched -instant attachment but way tooo messy and alot of work...hmmm maybe ill let him out on weekends when I can supervise to see if he'll be good with the chickens again-I just dont want him "mating them" he's huge!

My rooster is mounting my khaki campbell, she's crested so she's got that tuft of hair on her head. He grabs that hair or her neck and mounts her and the poor duck is running around trying to get away from him. All my geese, ducks, chickens are in the same coop/run and no problems up til now. Should I separate the ducks/geese or will it just stop? I shoo him off her each time I see him do it and haven't seen him trying it on anyone but her!

I don't think it will stop, you can give it more time if you want, but I would separate them. Maybe someone else has had this happen before and can give better advice.

Last night I saw him doing the same thing to another one of the Khaki ducks as well, so he's attracted to the ducks instead of the hens...............we're enlarging our run so I think I'll just separate an area for the ducks/geese away from them during the day. Hopefully then at night they can still all be in the coop together!

5-6 months if im not mistaken and normally only in season from what im reading, spring and also in late august or september i think I read (going off of wild mallard behavior).

What is the average amount of eggs in the nest before a duck will set?? I have at least two laying in the dog crate with straw in it. They cover the eggs up all the time. Got a chicken laying in there too.

I take out the chicken eggs but now there is about 14 duck eggs in there. Just wondering if they oughta be setting now?? If they are broody.
