Does she have a bunkmate? Let her bunk in with the chickens and she/he will be able to eat layer pellets just fine. They don't HAVE to swim, but mine do anyway, regardless of the weather. Whenever it got so cold that the kiddie pool froze, they would stand on the top crust and look at the water below and stare at me like "FIX THIS! NOW!" I'd break the ice and they'd be in the water. Most ducks do pretty well with the cold just as long as they can get out of the elements.
no bunk mates per say?? He does get kenneled up at night in the barn with all the chickens too-so they see eachother all the time-I will not get another duck-he was an accident in the first place-it was supposed to be a chicken egg! we could not get rid of him after he hatched -instant attachment but way tooo messy and alot of work...hmmm maybe ill let him out on weekends when I can supervise to see if he'll be good with the chickens again-I just dont want him "mating them" he's huge!
