2022. Forests were closed due to fire risk in '23 and we went to Hawaii last year.

Well, you can't camp there anymore from April-Oct (forest service restrictons), and it's quite cold in the winter so probably not unless you have a trailer/rv/etc... Great day trip though.

In 2022, where did you go?

In-laws rented a cabin up on the rim in the Coconino National Forest. If I'm just trying to get away for a couple of days, I'll typically go out to Bear Canyon Lake, drive in along the access road until my phone loses signal, then go another half mile or so. That way, if I NEED service in an emergency, it's close but no one can bug me.
