I tried looking through the site for this but my guess it's there I am just not wording my question right.

My question is; if I go into my coop at night, after dark, to lets say just to check on them, what sort of light should I use?

Is there a color that they don't pick up?

Or is a soft not real bright light any color ok?

Seems like every way I write it, the site's comes back that the chickens won't go in. Mine do.

I put a dark colored washcloth, secured with a rubber band, secured to the lens end of a flashlight.

If you had only 1 maybe 2 your grass MIGHT survive in that small of a area. Chickens do some damage to the ground floor of their runs. From scratching around all the time and walking any grass in your run will be toast. The only thing you could do is make a wire mesh floor a couple inches off the ground so that the grass is able to grow up but the chicks can't scratch the ground directly. Basically just build a wood frame and lay it down. Then staple hardwire mesh over the top. Grass will grow up through the wire but the chickens will eat the grass and keep it trimmed down to wire level. This would be the only way to save your lawn

I am more interested about the area outside their small run they need to be locked in at night. They will free range the 200sqm during the day, surely that larger area is ok for more than one or two.

Sorry I thought you said sq ft. I now see your saying square meters. That changes things a bit lol. You can absolutely fit plenty of chickens in that area. I'd say start with the max amount of chickens you think you want to handle and if you need to downsize then do it if the need comes.

Thanks, I'm only allowed 6 in my area (although some people nearby have more) looking to have 4 to 6. See how my hatch goes.
