IM not sure how to keep them safe in the winter. Their coop is completely predator proof its handmade. I was thinking about keeping them in the shed during the winter or even bringing them into the garage during the night. I have three buff orpinton ducks about 5/6 months old. They also have not laid any eggs yet. Any advice beside a heat lamp would be great.

All I need is dry, draftproof, and shavings :P
I'm in NJ, so not sure what your temps go down to....But I never even needed a heat lamp with adult ducks in winter. Even on blizzard days, all I did was add extra shavings and fluff em to keep the legs warm, and they provided the down coats themselves! :P

Thank you! I was thinking the same....theyvare just developing their adult color feathers they are at least 5 to 6 months buff orpington but not as big as I'd like them to be...

where are you? If youre where I am, you still have some time before winter :p
Mine were about 8-10 months before their first winter btw ;)

I'm in Pennsylvania! So yes there's time I just want to take care of them and get a little head start with prep.

Mine are about 6 months. What did you do to avoid their water from freezing ?
