I am no expert at pigeons! I have a young pigeon that I was told is a blue bar. She definitely has blue in her feathers that doesn't show up in this photo. She is approximately 3-4 months old and I'm not sure how much that I should ask for her or if she is worth anything. I think that she is just beautiful and her feathers look like they want to curl a bit like her father's. She is currently molting right now.

Her mother is a banded '09 racing homer (bottom). Her band links to the Akron racing club.

Her father is a white w/black frillback or frizzleback (not sure how to tell the difference). I don't know his age or anything. I think that he looks older, but the female picks at the feathers around his face and neck quite a bit.
He was all by himself in a cage when I got him. I bought some chickens and then found this fella all by himself and took him home with me since I had other pigeons. I thought he would be much happier and he is!

Any help or suggestions on how much to ask when I sell her would be appreciated. I tried to sex her and she definitely seems to have a wider V shape to her, but again.....I'm no expert!

Problem is the baby is not full blue bar.
The mix of frizzle in there will eventyally show up in any babies it has so it's not worth much as a breeder.
Frizzles don't have the aerodynamics for fast flight so it's not worth much as a racer (if it has any homer in it at all)
He dosent have much firzzle in it so it's not much good as a show pigeon

I'd sell it for what you think is fair to ensure he gets a good home as a pet and won't be used as target practice or as a dog trainer.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. Maybe I'll just keep her and fix my coop so that she can fly and come back in at night.

I would probably say you could get between $5 and $7 for her. Occassionally I see birds sell for $12 around here, but it's rare. She's pretty though!

She is a bluebar (color pattern) mutt and as such is not worth much to anyone but you. Your idea to keep her is probably a good one.

Genetically it is called "Dirty(V) blue bar" Dirty is a color affect that darkens the blue areas, makes the beak and skin black. Dirty will appear in 50% of her offspring. It should be a female. WHen you cross an ash red hen to a blue/black male you get blue hens and red males every time (sexlink). If you cross her back to her dad (frillback) the young should have even more frilled feathers. I would say she would be fun to watch fly.
