I was wondering what others think of golden laced wyandottes? I have 2 aprox 4-5 mos old. I sell eggs and need good layers. These girls are getting really big, but are very immature and not looking like they will be laying any eggs soon. Also, very skittish. Are they worth waiting for?
I also have 2 standard size cochins. I know they are not very good layers, but they are cute , friendly , curious and just adorable! How many eggs a week are people getting from cochins?

TIA

Generally my Wyandotte are late starters, 6-7 months, and they lay and than take breaks, the same with the cochins, but they take more breaks, and the cochins also go broody quite often. Of the Wyandotte varieties I find the gold laced lay more than the other ones, but they still aren't high production birds.

Wyandottes are pretty and friendly but not the best for eggs. I have a few that lay consistently, but I find that their eggs are smaller than all the other breeds I have. I have had Columbian, Gold laced and Silver laced wyandottes and they ALL produce small eggs. I have an egg business too and mix the small with the medium and large so people don't mind getting the few small eggs. :idunno
