Wow! Thanks everyone for being so welcoming! @Drumstick diva, PTFE is the coating in many nonstick surfaces. When heated it is very poisonous to birds. We were very careful not to use anythin with the coating because of the dangers. Unfortunately an off brand Silpat was coated. The first time we baked with it our Izzy started showing symptoms within the hour, and was gone 2 hours later. Unfortunately by the time symptoms are present its nearly impossible to save them. Very heartbreaking, but at least we were with him when he went.
