I did a similar thing. Rented a house no farm animals allowed. Moved to a rented house zoned A1, dove head first into chickens!
Did a little research beforehand, I'm an animal lover, so the rest was already in the back of my head.
BTW, chickens are ADDICTIVE!
When you can have them, start small with the #s, but big on the coop! You will add more birds, just wait and see!
