Assassination attempt on Hillary Clinton in Israel

I know you're joking! She is far from universally popular. Her smile, like that of her husband, has the sincerity of a tiger's handshake.

She's making the same mistake as some of her predecessors, wandering around the world telling other countries how to conduct themselves whilst knowing not enough about them and assuming that they welcome the interference.

The story quoted by Karlamaria, if it's correct, confirms what I have believed for some time. Muslim rebels in the Middle East last year were screaming at news cameras asking the West to come and rescue them from their evil dictators and help them create democracies. It was all hogwash. The were never interested in democracy or cosy relationships with the West. They wanted power for themselves and have shown themselves to be just as bad as their deposed dictators. One primitive tribe was replaced by another. As soon as they got what they wanted, they turned on the West just as the new Israelis turned on Britain after its armed forces helped them steal their new country. Oh, and before anyone pulls out the Nazi rubbish, I may be more Jewish than you. I'm not talking about religion.

See what happens when they get what they want? Libya and Iraq are in a mess now. There old dictators at least managed to keep order. Afghanistan will go the same way. The Egyptians are hacked off because they didn't get what they wanted. The President has gone but the military are still in control.

The Western powers should stop wasting lives and money, adjust their budgets and economies so as not to need wars to keep them going and take care of their own issued at home.

Yes, Go home Hillary! Bake a cake for hubby.
You consider killing anyone and their family that may say something against them keeping order ?

Yea fighting to try to make a better country who would want to do something as dumb as that ?

Take Iraq as an example. Was it quieter under Saddam Hussein than it is now? We might not like his methods but they seem to be more the norm than democracy in the Middle East. Let them get on with it. The victors will still sell the oil.

Surely you don't believe the propaganda that claims Western attacks on Middle Eastern and other Muslim countries are intended primarily to make a better country for their citizens. They're intended to oust dictators who are beyond their sell by date for the West and ensure that remote influence over oil and militarily strategic territories remains secure. It's a strategy that seems to be only partially successful. Even the gullible and malleable Thai government is unimpressed by NASA's claim that it would establish only a weather station at U-Tapao is the full story.

Vietnam veterans will remember that U-Tapao was used as a base for Agent Orange bombing runs during the Vietnam War.

It was quieter here under the king of England at one time also. At that time Democracy was not the norm for the world.

Quite so! See what you're missing?

Democracy is the norm for the world? I think you'll find that the majority do not live in democracies unless you call a one party state with voting a democracy.

Show me where I said democracy is the norm for the world ? I only see where I said it's not the norm.

I guess you missed that.

You never pay any mind to the question you always want to deflect and spin off to something else.

What do you have against people trying to get democracy or do you assume that none of them want it ?

You're playing Denn.

By indicating a past time when democracy 'was not the norm for the world' you are implying that it now is. I'm suggesting that it is not unless you include single party voting systems.

I have nothing against people wanting democracy but the 'Arab Spring' states, by and large, do not except to the extent that it would put in power another group which then ensures that it stays in power.
