Reading slow is inconvenient, but I just really like to read slow. I like to make sure I've seen and understood everything the writer was trying to convey. If needed, I can force myself, though.

In university, you'll have to do that. They want you to read all these wordy, badly-written textbooks. Those are actually fairly easy to skim because they're books where you don't care about anything but the information. Honestly, in my experience, all you really need is a good handle on exactly what the prof says in the classroom. Your experience may vary, but I always tested very well and I'll bet you will, too. You and I seem somewhat similar--but you will go farther, I think.

All I really ever wanted to do was help people and have a little "farm." Don't know about the first--people seem fairly resistant to "help," however badly they may need it. Best to leave that in God's hands ime. But at least I've finally got the second. Only took me 60+ years.

I am significantly slower on non-fiction works, such as studies or technical papers; I average about 565 words per minute on those.
