  1. Make more bearable. Palliative care eased his final days.
  2. Practical, unromantic, prosaic. He was a pragmatic man, prone neither to flights of fancy, nor fond of poetry.
  3. The word is familiar, but not sure--something like "praiseworthy, I think.
  4. Don't know.
  5. Reduction, waning. The steady detrition of his savings troubled him.
  6. Don't know.
  7. Emotional, touching, bittersweet. The poignancy of Shakespeare's Macbeth left me feeling hollowed out.

  9. Face and facial expression. Also means "tolerate". His countenance shown with joy as he said the long-anticipated words, "I do." I will not and may not countenance your intransigence."
  10. Discomfort. His discomfiture in the presence of his estranged brother showed in his downcast countenance.
 
Most of those definitions seemed good. #3 means slow to act / procrastinatory or intending to cause delay, like an action taken with the intent of delaying something.
I think #9 can also mean to approve of / support.
