Is there an AA - ahem - CA on here? Just happened to go to a local TSC and happened to get 5 chicks I don’t need ... Sapphire Gem, Midnight Majesty Maran, two straight run LF Cochins. (Yes I know the MMMs are hybrids, but if it clicks like a Maran, and looks like a Marans, and lays choco eggs like a Marans, then it’s Maran enough for me!)

Anyway, in the tub at TSC there was one MMM that was clearly struggling. These chicks would have been hatched Sun/Mon and been in the mail until this morning. TSC staff said sick ones get ‘quarantined’ in a separate tank in the back til they get better. I somehow doubt they’ll do much doctoring on her. She looks exhausted and was not on the heat lamp side or food/water end of the tub. She appears to not have full function of her legs as she is down on her hocks(?). Almost looks like she might have a swelling or thickness already at the joint where they would be touching the ground. She’s keeping her eyes closed and her head is slightly listing to either side, but I think this is because of stress and exhaustion.

So long and short, what might be her issue and can I remedy it? Have seen here and there about spraddle leg, could this be it? Or just some sort of deformity? I do understand there’s a good chance she won’t make it, but I had the opportunity to possibly help so ...

I have save a chick Electrolytes to try. She did take a couple sips of water. Right now I just stuck her under the heat plate to rest.

I dont know much to give you assistance wise. I just wanted to say bless your heart, you're amazing and thank you for loving that sick little baby even if she doesnt make it ❤❤❤❤ sending healing prayers and love!!

Managed to get like two drops of electrolyte solution in her by prying her mouth open. Probably concentrated as I had to eyeball it in a syringe rather than waste a whole gallon. The save-a-chick has some B vitamins. Do chicks need B complex, B12, or some other B vitamins? Of course TSC was out of anything that might be useful except a few packets of save-a-chick ...
