Hi everyone,
Long story short I assisted a little blue copper Maran hatch this afternoon (day 23, started to unzipped and got stuck, legs were in the wrong place to hatch), the chick strongly exited the egg under its own steam once I freed the top so he could move. However the navel is slightly bulgy and open, I've put some antiseptic spray on it and it appears to be slightly better even a few hours later. The chick dried fluffy in some places and hard and glued in others, the chick got hard feathers glued over its vent so I've used cotton buds and warm pre-boiled water to loosen the feathers and clear the vent. He also has a curve in his foot which makes him a bit unsteady. I'd like to move him out of the incubator now but the four other chicks who hatched before him seem to want to peck at him. Will he be okay overnight (hatched early afternoon) in the incubator? Is there anymore I can do for him? Will he be okay to move in with the other tomorrow?
Vanessa
PS oh and I've named him/her Copper. Not like I'm attached or anything.....

He should absorb anything from his navel in the next 24 hours. You are doing the right thing about his feathers.:)

He will be fine for a night in the incubator, especially if the others will peck him otherwise!

BTW Copper is an adorable name :love

Okay good, he is really not happy in the incubator alone. I've snuck him under the eco glow and so far there are no squabbles, I'm keeping a close eye and if all is well I'll leave him there for the night.....if not back in the Bator I guess!
I swear this incubation stuff is going to kill me :jumpy

Okay so he's still alive this morning, he got tipped up last night and was a little week this morning. His navel looks better this morning, I've dipped his beak in water, he doesn't want to eat or peck. Should I make him some warm mash from the crumble and try and dip his beak?
