I now have 6 in the special incubator which we call “NICU”

Something I just realized is that all 6 of these as well as the Barnevelder I assisted last night, all were incubated in the Brinsea Incubator and none of the eggs incubated in the NR360 have had any problems hatching. The Brinsea does a great job at maintaining humidity so it’s just interesting to note.

I have a question for you. Did you turn the eggs the first 3 days? I have read a few times here that if the air cells are detached on shipped eggs (not that yours were) it’s recommended to not turn the eggs for the first 3 days. I have FBCM eggs arriving Friday and I’m trying to prepare. I also have an NR360 and I’m hoping against hope for a good hatch. Thanks.

Yes, I turned them the entire 21 days
Half in the NR360 and half in the Brinsea because the Brinsea has always been great at incubating. Not this time :/

I’ve been trying to chip away at shell and remove membrane with scissors and tweezers but as soon as I see blood, I stop.

Update: All 6 have either hatched assisted or died
3 are in the transitional brooder alone (2 Isbar, 1 Mixed flock)
1 Wyandotte is alive but unable to stand and is very weak. Been in the incubator drying for 12 hours. Sticky and has a large swelling on the back of its neck/head from being stuck with its head out but bound for so long. I’ve syringed Some warm molasses water at its beak and it took a few sips before falling back asleep

the Barnevelder and one mixed flock didn’t make it though we tried valiantly to save them. Barnevelder has scissor break and the mixed flock was in a super hard shell and it just couldn’t break through :(

so total hatch -
25 Shipped eggs and 9 from my flock as control

34 Set
22 Made it to lockdown
7 hatched without assistance
8 hatched with assistance

All of the eggs needing assistance were from the Brinsea incubator so clearly there was an issue with humidity there :/

I’ll post a pic of the new babies as soon as all of them are fluffed Up. Thanks for coming along!
