This guy pipped more than a day ago. This morning I candled it and had to watch for a realllllly long time to see any movement and when it did move it was pretty feeble. I no longer saw any sign of it in the air cell. I widened the pip hole (maybe too much?) and applied coconut oil. I just reapplied and this is how it looks now. Definitely more vigorous now. That white area isn’t yolk, is it? Does the membrane look ok?

How long is it safe to leave him like this?

Thank you!

Membrane looks fine, if it's not malpositioned, or have any other problems it should still be able to get out on it's own, the hole doesn't look too big.

I haven't hatched ducks yet, but I have heard that 48 hours at least from external pip is normal for them.

When I checked on it mid afternoon, I thought it looked like it’s legs were malpositioned- it looked like they were stretched out over its head. Just a few minutes ago, I went to look again and see if I could get a picture of the legs... but it had hatched! Poor thing looks absolutely exhausted.
