Just spitballing here, but is Astroturf a horrible idea? Coop or run.

Same way folks do in dog runs: hose it down, and use a shopvac to suck up the yuck? Thinking under a layer of litter, maybe.

Dunno, just saw a dog run with AstroTurf rather than grass, which got me to thinking (and that doesn't always mean quality thoughts either, lol).

WET chicken coop/poop makes things nasty and its perfect for breeding coccidiosis.

Yeah, pretty much.

I think the only realistic use for it around chickens is as a nest box cushion, as poop shouldn't be an issue there. I've never tried it though, just seen others mention using it that way.

I'm thinking of using it for the nesting boxes. If an egg breaks or it gets dirty, I'm thinking I can just lift it out, hose it off, let it dry, and put it back.

Heck NO! I'm thinking its time for an Astroturf comeback!

You could also build a really cool Dome Style Coop and dress your chickens in retro style uniforms!

On second thought, maybe stick with deep litter composting...
