At a Loss...

I had some fox problems. It killed my favorite bird. I caught the fox. I have game cameras in several spots around on my property.

What size are these chickens?
How old are they?
A beak and a leg left behind screams ferrel cat to me of we are talking small chicks
If they are large full grown chickens i would guess opossum.
A fox would take the chicken to its den and feed there young. Or at least remove the kill to a safer distance away before eating it.

Here several years ago, a fox dug under a gate to one of our pens. It would go in and kill a bird and drag it out and then go back in and kill another bird and drag it out and on and on. When I saw it it was too late and I had 4 dead birds behind the coop. It came back for more but I had put concrete under the gates. I caught it. I had the electric wire around the pens and coops but not at the gates.

Yes my experience with foxes is I find a pile of feathers and that's it. The opposums ate the crop and some of the breast meat, sometimes the head, and that was it. I have not had a verified raccoon killing but I think they can leave pieces behind...things that kill for sport - coyotes and weasels, they leave whole bodies behind, mostly uneaten. Which is really irritating for me. I don't begrudge a meal to a hungry predator trying to feed her family, but to kill for sport is just RUDE.
