at what age are they no longer 'chicks'?

I've decided I can call them chicks as long as I think they're cute. When they start laying eggs I'll call them hens, even if I still think they're cute.

Hard to call them pullets or cockerels until you're sure, even the sexed chicks there's about a 10% chance that each one will be wrongly identified. I have a GL Wyandotte named Wyatt who is supposed to be a girly but seems to be getting red comb and wattles early compared to the others. Hmm. But they're all chicks!

But I have a plan for Wyatt either way. If he's a boy, he's got a date with GL girl his age a couple hours drive from here, whose owner is highly successful at hatching chicks and sexing them accurately at one week, so she'll take him, breed him, and I'll get two girl chicks in the spring!

But then, maybe he/she will still be a girl....

At first I called them chicks, then it moved on to My Babies. lol Now they are fully feathered and I call that flock just chickens and the name "chicks" has moved on to my new batch that came

But i believe the correct term for a female under a year is pullet and a male under a year is cockerel.

thanks for the replies!!

mine are 3 months old and they seem so big to me (compared to themselves as little fluff balls), but I know they have a lot of growing to do! I weighed one wyandotte roo for fun just now and it's 2.5#. That's nothing compared to the 8.5-11# estimate for when he's full grown.
