At what age can chicks have "regular" grit?

I can't seem to find chick grit anywhere around here. My chicks are approximately 3 weeks old now, and I won't give them anything but starter feed and yogurt (no treats) until they can have grit. When can I give them regular adult chicken grit?

I've read that you can give them regular garden/box sand. That's what mine have been on for the last 5 weeks. Now they are 8 weeks and they'll get their first real grit this week. The bag I have says 8 weeks. I waited because some of the rocks are just that, rocks. Hope that helps.

We live in nothing but sand, so that's easy enough. Thank you!
