At what age can I add zip tie leg bands?

At what age can use zip ties as leg bands without the danger of them getting too tight because they are still growing?
I want to mark my celadons so that we can keep them separated for breeding (but they look just like my regular coturnix... and my kids are going to mix them up... I just know it. )

You can always put a zip tie on and check often to make sure it isn't too tight. Cut off (I like suture removal scissors) and reband when the band size needs to be increased.

Whoaaaa, I’ve got to defend the kids! You’re likely to mix them up too. Other adults do that all the time right? I hadn’t even thought of leg bands for our birds because they’re pets and I’ve always thought of leg bands for commercial operations. Where do people buy they’re leg bands?
