Hello!
I have a 22-week old beautiful black australorp who has not started laying "real" eggs yet. We have found 5 of her soft shelled eggs in the coop over the last 2 weeks but so far, no real eggs. Just wanted to know at what age did your Australorp start laying? And did she also lay a lot of soft shelled eggs before the normal eggs started? We also have 1 buff orpington and 1 barred plymouth rock (same age as our australorp). both have been laying eggs daily for about 3-4 weeks now.
Thanks!

My Whoopi was about 19 weeks, and I haven't had a soft-shell egg from her yet. I have read that it takes a while sometimes for their bodies to get the whole thing down to a science. You can add a source of calcium (oyster shell, recycled egg shell, yogurt) to their feeding regimen and see if it makes a difference.
